A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

In short

Crossgate is a management sim about building a criminal operation in a city you may already know.

Recruit and manage your staff, run several types of establishments, build gangs, compete in the Arena, and survive an economy that changes as your organization grows. Rival operations run their own businesses and gangs, and they will push back when you interfere with them.

You can become rich and powerful, but Crossgate is never entirely under your control.

What it is

Crossgate is a full rewrite built in the lineage of the classic W*oreMaster projects and the crazy mod line. It keeps the management-focused foundation while replacing the old codebase with a modern engine, deeper simulation systems, and much broader modding support.

The game currently includes:

  • Characters with traits, states, preferences, refusal logic, and individual operational histories. They are more than random stat sheets, but they are not full RPG companions either.
  • Several building types with their own management layers, including the House, Brothels, the Arena, and the Dungeon.
  • Rival organizations with their own businesses, finances, and gangs.
  • Named gang members with individual statistics, injuries, casualties, leadership changes, and mission outcomes.
  • Gang missions, raids, and standing orders for repeatable operations.
  • An Arena season that progresses from league competition into a cup tournament, with injuries and prize money.
  • A detailed accounting journal showing where your money comes from and where it goes.
  • A demanding early economy that gradually shifts toward the problems of managing a larger organization.
  • Support for community character packs and broader content packages.
  • Lua modding, a modernized API, an authoring kit, and data-driven systems for characters, items, jobs, images, missions, and other content.

Current development

Crossgate is playable now, but it remains in active development.

The current public build may contain rough edges, older interface screens, placeholder content, or systems that are still being replaced piece by piece. Some parts of the game are already much more developed than others.

Recent releases have focused on:

  • Turning gangs into rosters of named members rather than anonymous numbers.
  • Expanding gang missions, outcomes, injuries, casualties, and leadership.
  • Adding standing orders for Catacomb operations.
  • Building the Arena league and cup structure.
  • Introducing prize money and longer-term Arena progression.
  • Improving accounting through a detailed money journal.
  • Moving more game content into packages and data files.
  • Expanding the tools available to modders and package authors.

The next stages of development are focused primarily on deeper gang warfare, the Arena Circuit, stronger rival organizations, and a broader modding surface.

Planned features

Near-term plans include:

  • Further Arena development, including the Circuit and improved competition data.
  • More gang-war systems and interactions with rival organizations.
  • Additional events and encounters.
  • Continued UI modernization.
  • Further expansion of package and Lua modding support.
  • Additional establishments

Longer-term plans include:

  • More developed rival organizations and NPC behavior.
  • Additional city districts and world map
  • A more dynamic complex world simulation.
  • Localization support.

Plans may change as existing systems are tested and expanded.

Platforms

Crossgate is available for:

  • Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux

Mobile devices are not currently supported.

For the best experience, use a Full HD display or larger, with a resolution of at least 1920×1080.

Support the project

Crossgate is developed independently. Financial support allows me to spend more time on development and invest in additional writing, design work, artwork, tools, and third-party resources.
